カレーと言えばインドですが、実は日本のカレーはイギリスの海軍から伝わったそうです。

かつては冷凍技術が発達していなかったため、イギリスの海軍はシチューの材料である牛乳を保存することができませんでした。

そして航海の途中で立ち寄ったインドにて香辛料に防腐効果があることを学び、イギリス海軍式のカレーを開発しました。

このカレーが日本に伝わり、日本人の主食である米と合うように、小麦粉を加えてとろみをつけて、現在の日本のカレーとなりました。

ちなみに、日本の海軍は毎週金曜日に必ずカレーを食べることで有名です。
