It’s said that there are a lot of jargon in banks.

Today, I will talk about two interesting jargon in Japanese banks.
銀行には、とても多くの隠語があると言われています。
Jargon 1: Japanese tea
今日は、銀行で使われる面白い隠語を二つ紹介します。
Annoying, unwieldy, or suspicious customers are called “Japanese tea.”
隠語その１「日本茶」
In actual situations, bankers say something like “Japanese tea, please” to another employee to show such a customer is coming.
迷惑な客や対応できない客、怪しい客のことを「日本茶」と言うそうです。
I’m not sure why Japanese tea is used.
実際には、他の行員に「日本茶お願いします」と言い、そのような客が来たことを知らせるようです。
Jargon 2: zabuton (a flat Japanese cushion)
日本茶である理由はわかりません。
Ten thousands 10,000 yen bills, that is 100 million yen is called “zabuton.”
隠語その２「座布団」
The reason is because aligned bundles of bills look like zabuton.
1万円札が1万枚、すなわち1億円のことを「座布団」と言うそうです。
I’d like to see such zabuton someday.
札束を並べた様子が座布団に見えるからだそうです。
